10 Golds for PSC Swimmers at Manchester Open

PSC Medal winners from the Manchester Open

Preston Swimming Club struck gold 10 times at the high-quality Manchester Open Level 1 meet. In total, 16 Preston swimmers came away from Manchester Aquatic Centre’s 50-metre pool with 23 medals.

Georgia Barton, 13, was in typically impressive form to take five golds – in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley (IM). Barton added to the trophy cabinet with a two silver medals, and came overall top position in her age group – the times of all her swims qualified her for the National Championships.

Katie Mawdsley, 12, took gold thanks to her freestyling abilities over 100m and 200m. She also grabbed silver in the 400m and bronze in the 50m. All her swims were personal best and NQTs.

Breaststroker Oliver Walker, 14, booked his place at the national finals as he pulled out a PB to take gold in the 100m, and a second gold followed in the 200m event.

Dean Heaps, 16, also took medals in the breaststroke, with two silvers in the 100m – in a PB – and 200m.

Another breaststroke medal came from Jessica Chadwick, 14, in the 50m. Chadwick also demonstrated her all-round ability in the 400m IM, missing out on a national qualifying time by a mere 0.05 of a second.

Alishia Finch, 11, came third overall in her age group, winning gold in the 100m backstroke, as well as taking silver medals in the 50m and 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke and a bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

In the boys’ age group, Lee Reeder competed in seven events and recorded six PBs, as well as taking bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and butterfly.

Also representing the club were Jack Holden, Mark Tootill, Jack Smith, Eleanor Laurence, Abbie Kitcher, Ashleigh Wareing, Abbie Huartson, Laura Joyce and Lena Tunbridge.
