Sharks First Gala of the Season
PSC 9 year old Sharks team
Preston Sharks started their Division One Micro League season by finishing runners-up to reigning regional and national champions Southport in a gala held at Fleetwood.
Team Manager Steve Heaps said: “Overall this is a pleasing start to a new season.
We have to improve if we are going to yet again make the grand final in September, as the competition in this division is very strong.
But, I believe we can, and fully expect us to, do just that.
Being drawn next to Southport spurred us on and the team performed very well indeed."
The nine-year-olds, who were making their debuts at this level, performed exceptionally well and put in some super swims.
Our next round is in early May and I look forward to seeing us making more progress in round two.”
The nine-year-old girl debutants comprised Alishia Nelson, Elissa Gornall and
Alicia Wood, and they certainly did themselves proud. Nelson earned two second places in the freestyle and backstroke.
The boys team was made up of Connor Adams, George Robinson, Chris Wilson and Raees Patel and they came third in the freestyle relay.
Portia Riding, Indah Higson, Holly Mawdsley and Emily Makinson provided the girls 10 years team which took second in the medley relay.
Mawdsley and Higson also got individual second places in the 50m breaststroke and freestyle respectively.
James Brown, Brandon Kinder, Ben Riding and Sean McGinty had success in the freestyle relay as they took first position, with a second in the medley.
Kinder was also in magnificent form in the individual events taking first in the breaststroke and butterfly, both in club record times.
Eleven-year-olds Kathryn Greenslade, Ella Brown, Danielle Buchanan and Sheena Patel came second in both relays.
Greenslade won the individual freestyle and Brown was second in the backstroke, both with personal best times. Greenslade also took second in the butterfly.
The boys provided a strong presence in the water, as Lee Reeder, Andrew Davison, Bradley Wallbank and Toby Seers powered home to first in the freestyle relay and took
second in the medley.
Reeder was in typically dominant form to take first in both the freestyle, setting a club record, and butterfly.
Seers came second in the breast with a personal best
Alishia Finch, Abbie Kitcher, Shauntelle Austin and Molly McManamon came first in the 12 years freestyle relay and second in the medley.
Austin set a blistering pace in the butterfly to take first place.
Kitcher took two second positions, in the freestyle and breaststroke, and Finch came second in the backstroke, in a personal best time.
The boys’ team saw 11-year-olds Seers, Reeder and Wallbank swim up an age group to join Harry Murphy and Matthew Rosbottom.
and take second position in both relays with solid swims.
They also produced good display in the individual events, all recording personal best times. Murphy came second in both freestyle and backstroke, Reeder was second in the butterfly and Rosbottom second in the breaststroke.
