Sharks win Final place

PSC 11 year old Sharks

Preston Sharks have booked their place in the regional final of the Micro League.

In the last gala of the regular season, Sharks produced a solid display to come runners-up to hosts Southport and, in doing so, gained sufficient points to ensure their appearance in the season’s finale.

Team manager Steve Heaps said: “Overall I am pleased with the performance of the team. We didn’t quite have our usual spark and determination – we seemed a little flat. However the result was all that mattered, ensuring we gained enough points for the final.”

The nine-year-old girls team were a swimmer short so they were unable to record points in the relay events. But Alishia Nelson, Elissa Gornall and Alicia Wood put in notable individual performances, with Nelson recording personal bests in the freestyle and butterfly, and Wood breaking new ground in the breaststroke.
Connor Adams, George Robinson, Chris Wilson and Raees Patel represented the boys. Adams was first in the 25m breaststroke, while Robinson swam personal best times in the freestyle and backstroke for second places. And Wilson was second in the butterfly.

James Brown, Brandon Kinder, Ben Riding and Sean McGinty took second place in both 10-year-old relays, and they were unbeatable in the individual events. A personal best gave Riding victory in the 50m backstroke, Kinder won the breaststroke and butterfly, and McGinty made it a clean sweep in the freestyle.
Portia Riding, Indah Higson, Holly Mawdsley and Emily Makinson swam for the girls.

The 11-year-old girls’ team of Kathryn Greenslade, Ella Brown, Danielle Buchanan and Sheena Patel took second place in both relays, with Patel swimming a PB in both events. Individual success came from Greenslade in the freestyle, and he was also second in the butterfly, with Buchanan second in the breaststroke.
For the boys, Dominic Walker, Lee Reeder, Andrew Davison, Bradley Wallbank and Toby Seers were second in the freestyle relay. Reeder won the butterfly and set a club record in the freestyle, with a time of 31.23. Swimming up, Kinder showed his strength by winning the 11-year-old breaststroke, while Walker completed a good day with second in the backstroke.

In the 12-year-old events, Alishia Finch, Abbie Kitcher, Molly McManamon and Shauntelle Austin stormed home first in both relays. Austin lowered the club record time when winning the butterfly, with Kitcher, McManamon and Finch finishing second in the other individual events.
Matthew Rosbottom and Harry Murphy were helped out by the 11-year-old boys to take second in the medley relay, with Seers also coming second in the breaststroke.

Final result:
Pos. Team Pts
1 Southport A 163
2 SHARKS 128
