Sharks at Blackpool

12 year old Sharks team with manager Ian Parker Preston Sharks kicked off the Division 1 Micro League season with a trip down the M55 to Blackpool’s Palatine Swimming Pool.

The Sharks put in a strong performance to take second place, behind Southport, in this first gala of the season.

Team Manager, Ian Parker said "This was a fantastic result for the first gala of the season, especially as we were up against some big competition. It was the first outing for the nine year old swimmers who performed especially well under the pressure of a big crowd. The rest of the team also swam brilliantly and are extremely proud of the result. Many thanks to the teaching and coaching staff for their continued dedication and support".

For the 9 year olds this was their first taste of Micro League action and they certainly rose to the occasion. Bethany Fletcher, Olivia John-Haslam, Emily Lawrence and Kelly McGinty powered home in the freestyle and medley relay to take first place in both events. Fletcher produced a splendid performance to also take first in the individual breaststroke and second in the back. John-Haslam continued the winning streak with a first in the freestyle and McGinty took first in the butterfly. The boys’ team were a swimmer down for the relays but Joshua Murray, Andrew Singleton and Billy Dewhurst put in strong performances in the individual events – Dewhurst came second in the breaststroke.

George Robinson, Connor Adams, Chris Wilson and Raees Patel took first place in the 10 year old medley relay. Second place finishes also came from Adams in the breaststroke and Robinson in the backstroke. The 10 year old girls’ team comprised Elissa Gornall, Alicia Wood, Alishia Nelson and Hannah Callon.

The 11 year old boys won both relay events as Ben Riding, Owen John-Haslam, Brandon Kinder, Sean McGinty and Matthew Monks provided unbeatable performances. Breaststroker, Kinder proved too much for the competition taking first in his favoured stroke as well as taking first in the butterfly. McGinty also provided maximum points as he took first in the freestyle. Indah Higson, Rebecca Moore, Portia Riding, Hannah Murphy and Natalie Lutaaya provided the girls team with Moore taking second in the freestyle.

Dominic Walker, Andrew Davison, Lee Reeder and Toby Seers followed on from last season’s success to prove to be formidable opposition in the 12 year age group. The boys came first in both relay events with each swimmer putting in a personal best performance. Walker took first, along with a record, in the backstroke. Reeder provided two personal best swims to come first in the butterfly and second in the freestyle with Davison taking second in the breaststroke. Danielle Buchanan, Sheena Patel, Ella Brown and Kathryn Greenslade came first in the freestyle relay and second in the medley. Two first places were also achieved by Buchanan in the breaststroke and Patel in the backstroke. Brown took second in the freestyle.

Final result:
Pos. Team Pts
1 Southport 171.5
2 PRESTON SHARKS 119.5
3 Leyland 100
4 Fleetwood   97
