North West Region Biathlon and Triathlon Championships

Victorious boys and girls biathlon competitorsPreston Swimming Club is delivering continued success in the field of Biathlon and Triathlon.

Part of the Olympic sport of Modern Pentathlon – governed in the UK by Pentathlon GB - the biathlon event combines the disciplines of a 1500m run and a 200m swim with shooting added to make the triathlon - points are awarded in each discipline.
At the North West Region Biathlon and Triathlon Championships held at the Salt Ayre Sports Centre in Lancaster the club took nine competitors and came away with eight medals – 3 of them gold.

In the 12 year and under age group, Rebecca Moore competed in her first ever biathlon and delivered an amazing performance to take individual gold. Prisha Patel also took a bronze medal with Indah Higson coming fourth – this all round strength resulted in the Preston trio winning gold in the team event. Matthew Monks put in a medal winning performance to take a bronze and Christopher Luff came fourth.
Dominic Walker was the fastest in the swim to take a bronze medal in the 14 year age group.

The under 16 girls were in typically strong form as they won the team event – Lydia Walker also took the individual silver, Susie Bilsborough the bronze medal and Laura Joyce came fifth.

The results at the Regional Finals mean that the Walker duo – Dominic and Lydia – make the National Triathlon finals later in the year at Tudor Grange, Solihull.

Straight on the heels of the Regional Finals, the Preston athletes travelled to Clitheroe to compete in the Ribble Valley Biathlon, Triathlon and Tetrathlon. The 12 year old girls – Moore, Higson and Patel – recorded the exact same positions as they did at the Regions with Patel picking up the gun for the first time to take a silver medal in the triathlon. Monks also competed in his first full triathlon and came away with a silver medal.
