Bert Brooks Gala
ANOTHER full house of gold medals saw 12-year-old Olivia Baron become the overall girls champion at Preston Swimming Club’s annual Bert Brooks Gala.
And in the boys’ section, 11-year-old Patrick Hill was the winner at West View Leisure Centre.
Olivia’s clean sweep in the four sprint events – 50m in each of the strokes – butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle, saw her win through, while Patrick took three golds.
Competition organiser Paul Todd said: “I would like to acknowledge with thanks the hard work involved by all
concerned in the organisation of such events.
I especially thank the dedicated band of volunteers and officials for the important part they play and who so freely give up their time to make events such as this happen.
Finally, to the swimmers who can be proud to compete and possibly make their mark in the history of Preston Swimming Club”.
In the seven years and under age group Joseph Gornall took a hat-trick of gold medals as he won the backstroke, breast and butterfly and took silver in the freestyle.
Elizabeth Wafer and Esme Brown shared the honours in the girls events, each taking two gold.
The two youngest swimmers, five year olds Ben Rosbottom and Katie Howard showed great bravery as they competed in front of a packed leisure centre.

Dewhurst both took three first places in the 8-year-old age group – Tess Collins and
Andrew Singleton took the
remaining golds.
Nine-year-old Sohan Rathod made it a clean sweep as he took all four top places. There were also four golds for the Hannah’s – three for Hannah Callon and one for Hannah Wilding.
The 10 year age group was dominated by two swimmers, Rebecca Moore won each of the girls events and Sam
Hollingworth won the boys.
Georgia Murphy also won each of the 11 year races with Patrick Hill taking three, as well as taking top place in the overall boys result.
Alex Joyce picked up the remaining gold.
Then Baron rounded up the gala with another full house of gold medals to become the overall girls champion.
